Sad outcome for a lovely girl

Geo was totally neglected and abused by those who she was kennelled with.  To the point that she was taken by her son Tobin unawares by anyone who were suppose to be caring for her.  I was not told anything other than "all is fine, and they are doing well." each month by email as I was relocating in the Netherlands.

Geo birthed 7 female pups late June 2011.  2 were dead when they were discovered that morning in her kennel.  By the end of the day I had made arrangements to have the 5 living pups and Geo removed by another mastiff person who lived near by.

In a series of horrific events each of the surviving pups died over 7-10 days and without my consent or knowledge Geo was returned to her original kennel, as she was not fit to travel from the US to NLD.

A major dispute occurred between me and the kennel operators at Willow Run and they elected to hold hostage all 4 of my mastiffs until they felt the bill was satisfied.  Nerve, I could have sued them for their neglegence and subsequent theft of Geo, Sable, Baby & Tobin.

I also hold responsible Dawn Edge, NJ - as these two breeders have been associated with each other for many years and they should have made sure thier recommendation was sound and secure for the dogs left in thier care.

Adding insult to injury the people at Dawn Edge, NJ - Threatened that if I planned on taking action against Willow Run, the friendship between us was over!  Awkwardly, I had to hush as I left in their care in New Jersey three vehicles, one of which was my motor home.  These are folks I helped and even lent money to them to repair thier home, which was in unlivable condition.  These events occurred mid summer 2011.

When I returned to the States in February 2012, I found all my dogs had been given away without my consent, and no action taken to remedy the harm done.  In addition my two cars were not kept up and had to be junked.  Instead of repaying the loan I made to them they decided to give the money to thier friends in Willow Run.  Confirming the association between them and causing me to hold them culpable and just as negligent

These individuals will one day have to atone for thier actions.  If not in this earth, then there after!

2011

Unfortunately the window of opportunity to bring Geo to the Netherlands mid July was thwarted by events totally out of my control. As a result I lost the breeding opportunity for the entire year. I will hold on telling the story of why she could not come with me back to the Netherlands for another time... all I will say, is the circumstances surrounding the situation are not optimal and may well cause me to have to completely remap the future with mastiffs.

2010

Geo had a litter of 4 great pups on February 12, 2010. We placed the girl with Geo's breeder, Dawn Edge in New Jersey. One boy, Lil Boy Blue with friends of the sire's owners, Willow Run, North Carolina. The Remaining 2 boys, Tobin is close to 135 lbs at 9 months and Moses has just spent the last three months in training with Texas handler Michael Brantley. Moses and Mike hit shows in Texas, New Mexico & California. Moses gained 2 points towards his CH and was awarded a G3 in an all breed puppy specialty.

Geo made her first show appearance in Topeka, KS in August and won 3 points as WB on three days out of 4. She appears to have recovered well from her ACL surgery and after whelping she maintained width and matured to a 165 pounds.

The end of 2010 she remained in North Carolina at the home and kennel of her mate Willow Run Exodus, while I toured Europe and became more acquainted with Mojo's Bulldogs in the Netherlands. We are excited about 2011 and we are making plans to get her out again, and to send her sons out as well. Look for another breeding either Spring of 2011 or later in the year.

Houston 2009

We arrived in the mid west late in June. We were entered in the Houston show, so we made a slow trek down south stopping in Dallas for their show and to celebrate the 4 th of July. Then on to San Antonio, a favorite city of mine. Next Houston, where "Geo" was excused for being lame. She was checked out and it appears we have some "ACL" issues to now deal with. From Houston we made our way north through Longview, Texas. Stopping at a great buffet I discovered in Humble last fall. Spent 2 days in Ligget for maintenance and re loading as I acquired a few new pieces of equipment.

While in the KC area we will plan out what to do about the "ACL" issue and look for other dogs to show in future events.

Training For Trenton 2009

We are getting ready for the Trenton Kennel Club show first weekend in May. We were there last year, and placed in puppy sweeps and class. We were small and inexperienced.

We return this year with some experience as Geo has been to a few other shows in New Jersey and in the mid west, and south west.

So we are in training...

Guardians Of The Estate

Curious Georgeanne pictured here on March 23, 2009 at 21 months...

Each pure breed of animal was developed for an expressed function; collies to herd livestock; English setters to find and flush game for the hunter; Labrador retrievers to retrieve ducks from the water; mastiffs to guard an estate; Dalmatians to accompany and guard carriages on long trips; terriers to find and kill varmints; toy breeds to be small, easily portable pets, and so on. First you decide how you want the dog to fit into your life, then you select the breed that most closely fits your needs. If you determine you want a mastiff then you chose well and please feel free to contact me to begin or continue your search for your puppy.

As it says above, mastiffs were bred to guard estates. This is not to say you need 100 rolling acres and a 45 room mansion. "The Estate" is hearth, home, possessions and family. Your mastiff has a born & bred desire to guard the estate of his or her family. This is why early obedience training is so critical. Your mastiff will select a place to lounge where they can observe and guard. When alerted, they will respond to protect. The majority will stand tall and by appearance alone intimidate any stranger from advancing without permission. The minority will be more aggressive, and will require obedience so as to be quickly called to a calm and accepting state of mind.

No one can guarantee you a perfect puppy. Many health related issues that can not be cured are only recently being weeded out by selective breeding. It is important that you deal with only breeders who test to be certain the puppy is sound and healthy.

Hips are a funny thing. I have no faith in preliminary tests. A mastiff's hips are not actually set until they are older than 2 years. In many cases a female should be be bred until she is close to 3, however many breed groups and clubs recommend no earlier than 22 months. As someone who will only breed sparingly - I will have only the cream of the crop of future mastiffs. This is why I will mostly be breeding my mastiffs to one or two other lines, from breeders who have established a proven track record of healthy and loving animals, free from disease and short lived lives.

I breed for soundness of body, mind and spirit, and the trueness of purpose and function. So if you want a mastiff that is healthy, strong, alert able to guard and slobber all over it's loved ones, you are just like me.
